IMPORTANT SHIPPING, RETURNS & LIVE PLANT PURCHASE POLICY

Please read before purchasing. By placing an order, you acknowledge that you have reviewed and accept the policies below.

We take great care in selecting, packing, and shipping healthy plants. However, orchids and other live plants are living products and may respond differently to shipping, temperature changes, handling, and environmental changes. Please review the following policies before ordering.

WEATHER & TEMPERATURE DAMAGE

Please check the weather conditions in your area before ordering.

Live plants are sensitive to extreme temperatures. Orders placed during periods of excessive heat or cold are shipped at the buyer's risk.

Jim's Orchids is not responsible for heat damage, cold damage, freezing, or other temperature-related damage that occurs during transit or following delivery, and refunds, returns, replacements, or discounts will not be provided for weather-related damage.

If unsafe temperatures are expected at your location or along the shipping route, we strongly recommend waiting to order or selecting an upgraded shipping service to reduce transit time.

WINTER SHIPPING & 72-HOUR HEAT PACKS

During the winter months, 72-hour heat packs will be available for purchase to help protect plants during cold-weather shipping.

Customers in areas experiencing cold temperatures are strongly encouraged to add a heat pack to their order when appropriate.

Upgraded shipping services are also highly recommended during periods of extreme temperatures and especially during the holiday season, when carrier networks may experience increased volume and transit delays.

When a heat pack is purchased, foam insulation wrapping will be provided at no additional charge. We may also add foam insulation at no charge when temperatures near or below freezing are expected at the destination and we believe additional protection is appropriate.

While heat packs and insulation can significantly improve cold-weather protection, they cannot guarantee against temperature damage, particularly when packages experience extended carrier delays, prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures, or are left outdoors following delivery.

Customers are encouraged to monitor tracking and retrieve live plant shipments as soon as possible after delivery.

FLOWERS, BUDS & FLOWER SPIKES

Plants pictured or described as in spike, in bud, or in bloom are not guaranteed to arrive with flowers, buds, or flower spikes intact.

We make every reasonable effort to carefully package and protect spikes and flowers. However, they are extremely delicate and can be damaged or broken due to movement, vibration, compression, or carrier handling during shipment.

Damage or loss of flowers, buds, or flower spikes does not constitute damage to the plant itself and is not eligible for a refund, return, replacement, or discount.

Purchasing a plant in spike or bloom means accepting the additional shipping risk associated with these delicate structures.

CATASETUM & CYCNOCHES ORCHIDS – SHIPPING STRESS & DORMANCY

Please be aware of the natural growth cycle of Catasetum, Cycnoches, and related orchids before purchasing.

These orchids commonly respond to shipping and environmental changes by developing yellowing leaves, leaf drop, or an appearance that may initially look stressed. This is a normal response for these types of orchids and does not necessarily indicate that the plant is unhealthy.

Catasetum and Cycnoches orchids are naturally deciduous orchids and normally lose their leaves as they enter their annual dormancy period, typically during the fall and winter months.

Shipping, changes in temperature, reduced light, and changes in growing conditions can accelerate yellowing and leaf drop, particularly when a plant is approaching its normal dormancy period.

Yellowing leaves, leaf drop, or normal dormancy-related changes on Catasetum, Cycnoches, and similar deciduous orchids are not considered plant damage. No refunds, returns, replacements, or discounts will be provided for these normal responses.

The health of these plants should primarily be evaluated based on the condition of the pseudobulbs and root system rather than the continued presence of seasonal foliage.

SHIPPING METHODS & DESTINATION REQUIREMENTS

UPS is our primary shipping carrier for most U.S. destinations.

Certain destinations require different shipping methods:

California: Orders will generally ship via USPS Ground unless otherwise specified.

Puerto Rico & Hawaii: USPS Priority Mail must be selected at checkout.

U.S. islands and other destinations where standard UPS service is unavailable or inappropriate: USPS Priority Mail must be selected at checkout.

It is the buyer's responsibility to select the appropriate shipping service when required. Orders placed with an incompatible shipping method may be held while we contact the buyer to arrange the appropriate shipping service and any applicable difference in shipping cost.

SHIPPING DELAYS & CARRIER HANDLING

Once a package has been accepted by the shipping carrier, transit times and handling are outside of our direct control.

Estimated delivery dates provided by UPS, USPS, or an online marketplace are estimates and are not guaranteed delivery dates unless specifically provided as a guaranteed service by the carrier.

Jim's Orchids is not responsible for carrier delays caused by weather, mechanical issues, transportation disruptions, holiday volume, incorrect routing, or other circumstances outside of our control.

We will, however, make reasonable efforts to assist customers with legitimate carrier issues when appropriate.

LOST OR MISSING PACKAGES

Customers should monitor the tracking information provided with their order.

If tracking shows an unusual delay or a package appears to be lost in transit, please contact us so that we can assist with determining the appropriate next steps with the shipping carrier.

If tracking shows that a package was successfully delivered to the address provided with the order, responsibility for the security and retrieval of the package transfers to the buyer.

Customers are strongly encouraged to have live plant shipments delivered to a secure location where they can be retrieved promptly.

INCORRECT OR INCOMPLETE SHIPPING ADDRESSES

Customers are responsible for providing a complete and accurate shipping address at checkout.

Jim's Orchids is not responsible for delays, returned packages, misdelivery, or plant damage resulting from an incorrect or incomplete address provided by the buyer.

If a package is returned because of an incorrect address, additional shipping charges may be required before the order can be shipped again.

LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & NORMAL SHIPPING STRESS

Live plants may experience temporary stress during transportation.

Normal shipping responses can include minor leaf yellowing, temporary wilting, dehydration, minor cosmetic leaf damage, loss of older leaves, minor root damage, or other temporary changes associated with being packaged and transported.

Minor cosmetic damage or normal shipping stress that does not affect the overall health or viability of the plant is not considered grounds for a refund, return, replacement, or discount.

Plants may require time to acclimate after arriving in a new environment.

PLANT SIZE, APPEARANCE & PHOTO VARIATION

Unless a listing specifically states that the exact plant pictured is the plant being sold, listing photographs may represent the typical size, growth habit, or flowering characteristics of the variety.

Because plants are living products, individual plants naturally vary in size, shape, number of leaves, roots, pseudobulbs, growth direction, and overall appearance.

Bloom photographs may be provided to demonstrate the expected flowers of a mature plant and do not necessarily indicate that the plant being purchased is currently blooming or flowering size unless specifically stated in the listing.

ACCLIMATION AFTER DELIVERY

Orchids are grown under specific greenhouse conditions before shipment. Your growing environment may differ in temperature, humidity, light, airflow, water quality, potting media, and watering frequency.

Some plants may temporarily slow their growth or show signs of adjustment after arriving.

Customers should allow plants an appropriate acclimation period and research the cultural requirements of the orchid variety purchased.

Damage caused after delivery by improper watering, repotting, fertilizer application, chemical application, excessive sunlight, insufficient light, temperature exposure, or other growing conditions is the responsibility of the buyer.

PESTS, DISEASE & ORCHID VIRUSES

We make reasonable efforts to inspect plants before shipment and maintain healthy growing conditions. Our orchids are sourced from reputable orchid nurseries and growers, and we make every reasonable effort to offer healthy, quality plants.

However, orchids are living plants, and no orchid can be guaranteed to be completely free of pests, disease, or plant viruses unless it has been individually laboratory tested. Some orchid viruses may remain asymptomatic and show no visible signs of infection at the time a plant is purchased, received, inspected, or shipped.

Individual plants are not routinely laboratory tested for viruses prior to sale, and the purchase of an orchid should not be interpreted as a guarantee or certification that the plant is virus-free.

Customers who require virus-tested plants for breeding, exhibition, collection management, or other purposes should perform their own testing and quarantine new acquisitions before introducing them into an established collection.

A positive virus test following delivery does not qualify the plant for a refund, return, replacement, credit, or discount.

Because orchids are living plants grown in greenhouse environments, customers should follow good horticultural practices and quarantine newly purchased plants from an established collection whenever possible. This is recommended regardless of the source from which an orchid is purchased.

Any concern regarding the condition of a plant upon arrival should be documented immediately with clear photographs before the plant is repotted, treated with chemicals, divided, or otherwise substantially altered.

DAMAGE CLAIMS & PHOTO DOCUMENTATION

If you believe a plant has experienced damage during shipment that is not covered by the exclusions above, please contact us promptly after delivery.

Please retain the plant, shipping box, packing materials, and shipping label and provide clear photographs of the plant and packaging so the situation can be properly evaluated and, when applicable, documented for a carrier claim.

Please do not discard the plant or packaging before contacting us.

ORDER CANCELLATIONS & CHANGES

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to request an order change or cancellation.

Once an order has been packed, processed, or transferred to the shipping carrier, cancellation or modification may no longer be possible.

COMBINED SHIPPING

When possible, multiple purchases may be combined into a single shipment to reduce shipping costs and minimize the number of packages being transported.

Combined shipping is dependent on plant size, package dimensions, destination, timing of the orders, and the shipping services selected.

Please contact us as soon as possible when requesting combined shipping.
